The coffee diet to lose weight: what does this regimen consist of to accelerate the metabolism

The coffee diet for weight loss was made popular by Dr. Bob Arnot , who claims that taking these beans several times a day can speed up metabolism, burn more fat, block calorie absorption, and decrease appetite. All this he recounted in his famous book , which he wrote after studying the people who live on the small Greek island of Ikaria, where there are a large number of long-lived and healthy old people.

The coffee diet to lose weight: what it consists of

The coffee diet plan for weight loss is based on drinking a minimum of three cups (720 ml) of light roast coffee per day . Light roasts tend to be higher in polyphenolic antioxidants than the rest.

Dr. Arnot recommends lightly roasted coffee beans ground at home and made with filtered water.

Regarding diet, one can drink as much coffee as you want , caffeinated or decaffeinated, as long as you reach the minimum of 3 cups a day. Of course, you have to drink it without sugar.

As for the rest of the day, and to promote weight loss, the doctor recommends replacing a meal with a homemade green smoothie with high fiber content. The other meals and snacks should be low in calories and fat and high in fiber (whole grains, fruits and vegetables). Highly processed foods should also be avoided. In total, one should consume around 1,500 calories per day .

An ideal lunch if we want to lose weight would be a vegetable dish with brown rice or a salad with grilled chicken . Come on, like any other regimen.

Benefits of this diet: it can decrease appetite and speed up metabolism

Dr. Arnot assures in his book that coffee can  lose weight by suppressing the appetite , which will make us eat less during the day, something that is not scientifically proven one hundred percent, although it has been proven that consuming coffee decreases the number of total caloric intake per day.

Besides, it is true that coffee (with caffeine) increases the number of calories and the amount of fat that one burns during the day, which promotes weight loss. Numerous  studies  show that  caffeine  can help increase metabolic rate by up to 11%. In fact,  six different investigations  found that people who consume 270 mg of caffeine per day (about three cups) burn an additional 100 calories every 24 hours .

How much coffee is too much?

The clear danger of this diet is consuming too much coffee , which can lead to certain health problems , such as high blood pressure or hypokalemia, which is a condition caused by losing too much potassium as a result of going to the bathroom too much (coffee is very diuretic ).

In the most severe cases, excessive caffeine intake has been linked to heart attacks, headaches, insomnia, and increased risks of bone fractures, osteoporosis, and even depression.

So how much coffee is too much? Experts say that up to 400 mg per day, or about 4 cups (960 ml) of coffee per day, is safe . Beyond that, we will be at risk of suffering a complication.
